As academic Anastasios Orlandos said that the source of its magnificence is not just its impeccable lines and faultless proportions of the Ionian pieces, but its shape; a decumbent Pi (Π). This produces alternating apertures and protrusions, generating arresting changes in the lighting and shadows of the edifices. All of this gives the entire structure a liveliness, flux, and even a dramatic flair.
