Its print, inspired by the infamous Minoan monkey frescoes, found in the walls of Akrotiri, a city on the Greek island of Santorini with a history dating back 3,600 years. These lively blue monkeys, along with a variety of other animals depicted in the frescoes, have been studied for decades by historians. It was previously believed that the monkeys were an African species, which may have been traded along with other goods from Egypt. However, upon further examination, scientists have come to believe that the paintings actually portray Hanuman langurs (genus Semnopithecus), monkeys from the Indian subcontinent. This suggests that the Aegean people, hailing from Crete and the Cycladic islands in the Aegean Sea, may have had trade routes that spanned over 2,500 miles.
